The 2020 Mujeres a Mujeres Fashion Show, Rhapsody in Blue was a smashing success. A show that sold out in just 2 weeks to an appreciative audience of 400 local women, most dressed in their favorite blue attire, WOWED! From a tasty blue cocktail to walking the red carpet, to Birch Nero and his beautiful cello. Lunch by El Rodeo was served to the tunes of Scott Webb. Our outstanding students were introduced by Tara Spears. Chairperson May MacKay delivered the keynote request for support.
Over 200 silent auction items were up for bid! Maureen Fatin and Rob Henry singing and playing “blue” themed songs opened the runway show. Fashions from local designers and boutiques were featured in 4 themed presentations: Fun in the Sun, Afternoon Essentials, Sophisticated Women and Sundown Collection. A huge hit this year were the models strutting the stage to ‘Boot Scootin’ Boogie’ in denim, cowboy boots and hats donated by El Rodeo Leather in La Penita.
So not only was the show another fun filled afternoon, it was also the most successful show financially to date. A huge thank you from the committee to all you attending the show and your incredible generosity. Another huge thank you to the over 100 volunteers helping the show run smoothly and ensuring everyone had a fun time. This generosity of time and money means we are able to continue financing over 25 scholarships for young women from our area attending university.
Please visit our web site and the highlighted pages for additional information and pictures of this special event.
YES, it is a show with fun and fancy fashions, and YES, we have a wonderful silent auction with beautiful items, and YES, great food, artfully presented but we also have an afternoon of outstanding entertainment.
Volunteering their talents again this year are Birch Nero and Scott Web.
Birch ’Arbolito’ Nero, when not in Los Ayala, lives on lake Wabamun in Alberta, Canada. He has combined his two musical careers to create his own music recordings to accompany his cello. Birch has been a percussionist since childhood, performing in concert, jazz and rock’n’roll bands. He was classically trained on the cello, performing in an orchestra and in a duo with a harpist for weddings. Besides playing mostly contemporary pieces, such as those by the Beatles, Neil Young and Sarah McLachlan, Birch also composes his own pieces providing intimate and relaxing music for weddings, restaurants and special events. He is currently a regular at restaurant Buhardilla in Guayabitos on Wednesday’s evenings and is also part of the LA Connection band on Thursday evenings at restaurant Villa Nueva, also in Guayabitos.
Scott Webb is a veteran musician of 40 years playing experience, specializing in blending musical styles and influences while still paying proper homage to the timeless classics of Jazz. He has studied at Los Angeles’ Wind College and privately with members of the Ellington Orchestra, Louis Bellson Orchestra and the Don Menza Band. Scott has performed with many “A” list artists throughout his career, including McFadden & Whitehead, the Delfonics, Major Harris, the Drifters, the Coasters, the Fortunes, the Del Vikings, the Boxtops, Billy Paul, Denny Laine and the Isley Brothers. Scott appeared for 3 months at Harrah’s Reno in the highly acclaimed production of “Piano Men” (a tribute to Billy Joel / Elton John). Scott lives in the beautiful seaside town of Rincon De Guayabitos, Nayarit, Mexico. He enjoys performing often around Jaltemba Bay during the “Season”, November through March.
A special treat is in store for our guests this year when Maureen Fatin and Rob Henry take the stage to open the show. This is their first year volunteering. Let’s Welcome them!!
Maureen Fatin is a Lyric Soprano originally from Australia, living in Crofton, Vancouver Island. She trained at the Victoria Conservatory of Music, around the same time as her very talented accompanist Rob Henry. Over the year, she has performed in numerous musicals and Operas including Evita, Jesus Christ Superstar, Godspell, Chicago, 3 Penny Opera and Sound of Music. Some of her favorite roles include Eliza in My Fair Lady, Kate in Kiss Me Kate, Golde in Fiddler on the Roof, Ado Annie & Aunt Eller in Oklahoma. She currently sings with SYNG choir in Puerto Vallarta and 3 choirs on the Island – Mendlessohn, Summer Choir and The Medford Singers in Duncan, B.C.
Rob (aka Roberto) Henry, who hails from Nanoose Bay BC, is Maureen’s pianist for today. A classically trained improv/jazz/blues musician, he is a regular member of various bands and ensembles both in Mexico and at home on Vancouver Island. He plays keys and harmonica for the LA Connection Band every Thursday night at the Villa Neuva Restaurant, Guayabidos, until mid-March.
Returning is an annual favorite, Adan, with his great music machine. Adan provides the runway music and ‘break music’ for the Fashion Show. Very importantly, Adan provides the PA system for total ‘surround sound’! His time and talents are sponsored by Rod Jenkins. Thanks Rod!
Without Your generosity the Mujeres a Mujeres Fashion Show every year it would merely be a “really fun” afternoon. But because everyone participates in the silent auction or the 50/50 drawing or the donation envelopes or ALL three, we can make a difference in the lives of nearly 30 young women, their families and our community.
Our students are studying medicine, teaching, accounting, social work, business, law and tourism. Ten students are graduating this year, opening space for more aspiring professionals.
BUT, that’s all dependent on your generosity on Wednesday, Jan. 22nd at Rhapsody in Blue! Last year, at Lady in Red, the guests on average, bought, gambled and donated an average of $558 pesos per person. Many, many guests gave far more.
Just imagine if You and everyone attending committed to spending just $100 pesos more this year than they spent last year! That’s only an average of $5.26 USD and $6.84 CD. That would increase our profits by $40,000 pesos, guaranteeing we could continue our mission: TO RAISE FUNDS TO ASSIST THE WOMEN AND CHILDREN OF JALTEMBA BAY.
You have your coveted ticket.
You’ve gathered nine of your BFF’s to join you at the table.
You have your knock out blue dress and maybe a matching chic hat.
And it’s fashion show day-
Is it just an afternoon of great food and drink, fun fashions and dancing?
It is that and more.
It is the only fund raiser to support over 25 local young women in achieving their advanced education goals.
It is an opportunity to provide fiscal support to Cancer de Mama and GEMA. And to provide Christmas food baskets to over 40 families of need.
Your ticket of 500 pesos can’t support all of that. We need you to come to the event of the season prepared to bid high and bid often on great Silent Auction items.
Buy a stream of 50/50 tickets with a chance to win thousands of pesos.
And to be generous in filling our donation envelopes.
Help us make this “the best one yet” with your generous heart and pocketbook. So…….
BRING THOSE PESOS!

Mark your calendars in red for the next Women to Women Fashion Show to be held Wednesday, January 30, 2019. Imagine the Guayabitos Plaza adorned with beautiful ladies dressed in powerful red. Wow! This year’s theme for the party, “Lady in Red,” begs for fashion passion. Don’t miss the largest show along the coast! What a statement you will make against the pristine white tables and tents. We challenge you to be dramatic: will it be a sexy red cocktail dress or a pure white ensemble with scarlet accessories? We can’t wait to see red!
The current Women to Women Fashion Show initiatives includes 27 university grants-a major accomplishment; 44 food bags for needy families at Christmas; a $20,000 grant to GEMA, a shelter for abused women; and supplying daily breakfast to low-income students attending the local middle school.
All of this year-round giving to the community is accomplished from this one event. As the sole fundraiser for the group, the Fashion Show has a huge responsibility: provide a classy party that entertains the guests; support the local designers and area businesses; generate funds for initiatives. For fifteen years FS group has exceeded their goals-thanks to your support!
The Fashion Show Committee looks forward to seeing you on the red carpet in 2019. Like & follow our Facebook page for updates and join our Facebook group to be a part of the conversation. To donate or volunteer, please email Robin: firstname.lastname@example.org or May: email@example.com

Check out the beautiful new arrivals at Lombok Exotic Touch Boutique on the main street in downtown Guayabitos. If you want to look good and be comfortable on vacation, Lombok is the place to go! Need something to spiff up an outfit? Lombok has a huge selection of attractive necklaces, bracelets, and earrings, too. “We get new items every week,” said store manager Consuelo Meza (above photo.) “If you like a particular item, but want another size or color, I can order that for you from one of our other stores.” Consuelo is at the store every day and speaks English.
This funky shop offers exotic home décor but primarily features women’s sensuous clothing, jewelry, purses, belts, pareos, and aromatherapy oils. Lombok remains a popular shopping spot for women who want unique casual apparel that suits the tropical climate. The fabrics are great for tossing in a suitcase and make great souvenir gifts.
Consuelo has more than 20 years of experience in retail fashion and it shows in the artistic arrangement of the boutique. Her keen eye for color and fashionforward sense of style makes looking good easy for the shopper! It’s so much fun to browse the separates and check out the sale items. Yes, ladies, SALE ITEMS. In. Mexico! And you can treat yourself to a goodie and use your credit card to pay.
The Women to Women group has only one source of income for its initiatives, the annual show in January. But another goal is for the Fashion Show event to also provide an opportunity for local designers and area women’s boutiques to showcase their talent. The show gives volunteers an opportunity to strut their stuff by modeling these original designs. Don’t miss out on a wonderful afternoon of food, fashion, fun where you can dress up. Not only will you get to meet the 26 young women presently receiving a university scholarship but you will see one of the area’s top stores, Lombok Boutique, provide fresh ensembles for the runway.
One visit and you will return again and again. Lombok is a great boutique to get some lounge wear, accessories or gifts to bring home!
Don’t miss this girls’ day out event. For more information, visit mujeresamujeres.com or see Yvonne at the Women to Women table at the La Avenida Restaurant, next to the Thursday market in La Penita for your ticket.
