MASQUERADE MADNESS Now THE NO SHOW FASHION SHOW

We need your help!

For 18 years the Fashion Show Gala has been the sole source of revenue for Women to Women initiatives.  And your generosity as a guest, sponsor or volunteer in the past has had a huge impact.  However, due to the drastic lifestyle modifications stemming from the 2020 pandemic and for everyone’s safety, the January 2021 event, Masquerade Madness, has been cancelled.  We will be launching soon, Mask-er-aid Madness -The No Show Fashion Show fundraiser to take its place.

Women to Women will continue its commitment to provide economic support to 21 young women  pursuing their university education.  Women to Women is a non-profit organization, operated by volunteers with 100% of your donations going directly to the programs supporting the women and children of Jaltemba Bay, Mexico.

2020 Fashion Show a Smashing Success

The 2020 Mujeres a Mujeres Fashion Show, Rhapsody in Blue was a smashing success.  A show that sold out in just 2 weeks to an appreciative audience of 400 local women, most dressed in their favorite blue attire, WOWED!  From a tasty blue cocktail to walking the red carpet, to Birch Nero and his beautiful cello.  Lunch by El Rodeo was served to the tunes of Scott Webb.  Our outstanding students were introduced by Tara Spears.  Chairperson May MacKay delivered the keynote request for support.

Over 200 silent auction items were up for bid!  Maureen Fatin and Rob Henry singing and playing “blue” themed songs opened the runway show.  Fashions from local designers and boutiques were featured in 4 themed presentations:  Fun in the Sun, Afternoon Essentials, Sophisticated Women and Sundown Collection.  A huge hit this year were the models strutting the stage to ‘Boot Scootin’ Boogie’ in denim, cowboy boots and hats donated by El Rodeo Leather in La Penita.

So not only was the show another fun filled afternoon, it was also the most successful show financially to date.  A huge thank you from the committee to all you attending the show and your incredible generosity.  Another huge thank you to the over 100 volunteers helping the show run smoothly and ensuring everyone had a fun time.  This generosity of time and money means we are able to continue financing over 25 scholarships for young women from our area  attending university.

Let Me Entertain You

Ready for YOU. . .Outstanding Entertainment!

YES, it is a show with fun and fancy fashions, and YES, we have a wonderful silent auction with beautiful items, and YES, great food, artfully presented but we also have an afternoon of outstanding entertainment.

Volunteering their talents again this year are Birch Nero and Scott Web.

Birch ’Arbolito’ Nero, when not in Los Ayala, lives on lake Wabamun in Alberta, Canada. He has combined his two musical careers to create his own music recordings to accompany his cello. Birch has been a percussionist since childhood, performing in concert, jazz and rock’n’roll bands. He was classically trained on the cello, performing in an orchestra and in a duo with a harpist for weddings.  Besides playing mostly contemporary pieces, such as those by the Beatles, Neil Young and Sarah McLachlan, Birch also composes his own pieces providing intimate and relaxing music for weddings, restaurants and special events. He is currently a regular at restaurant Buhardilla in Guayabitos on Wednesday’s evenings and is also part of the LA Connection band on Thursday evenings at restaurant Villa Nueva, also in Guayabitos.

Scott Webb is a veteran musician of 40 years playing experience, specializing in blending musical styles and influences while still paying proper homage to the timeless classics of Jazz.  He has studied at Los Angeles’ Wind College and privately with members of the Ellington Orchestra, Louis Bellson Orchestra and the Don Menza Band.  Scott has performed with many “A” list artists throughout his career, including McFadden & Whitehead, the Delfonics, Major Harris, the Drifters, the Coasters, the Fortunes, the Del Vikings, the Boxtops, Billy Paul, Denny Laine and the Isley Brothers.  Scott appeared for 3 months at Harrah’s Reno in the highly acclaimed production of “Piano Men” (a tribute to Billy Joel / Elton John).  Scott lives in the beautiful seaside town of Rincon De Guayabitos, Nayarit, Mexico.  He enjoys performing often around Jaltemba Bay during the “Season”, November through March.

A special treat is in store for our guests this year when Maureen Fatin and Rob Henry take the stage to open the show.  This is their first year volunteering.  Let’s Welcome them!!

Maureen Fatin is a Lyric Soprano originally from Australia, living in Crofton, Vancouver Island.  She trained at the Victoria Conservatory of Music, around the same time as her very talented accompanist Rob Henry.  Over the year, she has performed in numerous musicals and Operas including Evita, Jesus Christ Superstar, Godspell, Chicago, 3 Penny Opera and Sound of Music.  Some of her favorite roles include Eliza in My Fair Lady, Kate in Kiss Me Kate, Golde in Fiddler on the Roof, Ado Annie & Aunt Eller in Oklahoma. She currently sings with SYNG choir in Puerto Vallarta and 3 choirs on the Island – Mendlessohn, Summer Choir and The Medford Singers in Duncan, B.C.

Rob (aka Roberto) Henry, who hails from Nanoose Bay BC, is Maureen’s pianist for today.  A classically trained improv/jazz/blues musician, he is a regular member of various bands and ensembles both in Mexico and at home on Vancouver Island.  He plays keys and harmonica for the LA Connection Band every Thursday night at the Villa Neuva Restaurant, Guayabidos, until mid-March.

Returning is an annual favorite, Adan, with his great music machine.  Adan provides the runway music and ‘break music’ for the Fashion Show. Very importantly, Adan provides the PA system for total ‘surround sound’!  His time and talents are sponsored by Rod Jenkins.  Thanks Rod!

If Only 100 Pesos More

Without Your generosity the Mujeres a Mujeres Fashion Show every year it would merely be a “really fun” afternoon.  But because everyone participates in the silent auction or the 50/50 drawing or the donation envelopes or ALL three, we can make a difference in the lives of nearly 30 young women, their families and our community.

Our students are studying medicine, teaching, accounting, social work, business, law and tourism.  Ten students are graduating this year, opening space for more aspiring professionals.

BUT, that’s all dependent on your generosity on Wednesday, Jan. 22nd at Rhapsody in Blue!  Last year, at Lady in Red, the guests on average, bought, gambled and donated an average of $558 pesos per person.  Many, many guests gave far more.

Just imagine if You and everyone attending committed to spending just $100 pesos more this year than they spent last year! That’s only an average of $5.26 USD and $6.84 CD. That would increase our profits by $40,000 pesos, guaranteeing we could continue our mission:  TO RAISE FUNDS TO ASSIST THE WOMEN AND CHILDREN OF JALTEMBA BAY.

Bring Those Pesos

You have your coveted ticket.

You’ve gathered nine of your BFF’s to join you at the table.

You have your knock out blue dress and maybe a matching chic hat.

And it’s fashion show day-

Is it just an afternoon of great food and drink, fun fashions and dancing?

It is that and more.

It is the only fund raiser to support over 25 local young women in achieving their advanced education goals.

It is an opportunity to provide fiscal support to Cancer de Mama and GEMA.  And to provide Christmas food baskets to over 40 families of need.

Your ticket of 500 pesos can’t support all of that. We need you to come to the event of the season prepared to bid high and bid often on great Silent Auction items.

Buy a stream of 50/50 tickets with a chance to win thousands of pesos.

And to be generous in filling our donation envelopes.

Help us make this “the best one yet” with your generous heart and pocketbook.  So…….
