Like so many international residents, Italian native Antonio Luori came for a vacation to coastal Mexico and decided that Mexico would be his home. The owner of the local Lombok Exotic Touch clothing store originally was a surfing hippie in San Blas, Nayarit in the early 1990s. Needing an income, Antonio sold some of his European art he had brought with him, and with his then wife, decided to import more international items to open a shop “that would bring style from other cultures to Mexicans at a reasonable price.” As that first small shop was successful, Antonio decided to open a store in the rapidly developing tourist spot, Rincon de Guayabitos on the main avenue, Sol Nuevo, in 1997. Offering exotic home décor but primarily featuring women’s clothing, shoes, jewelry, purses, belts, and pareos. Lombok remains a popular shopping spot for women who want unique casual apparel that suits the tropical climate. Over the years Luori expanded his clothing stores to the present number of seven in addition to offering on-line sales at www.lombokexotictouch.com. The Guayabitos manager, Consuelo Meza, has been with the company for 13 years. “Antonio does all the selection and purchasing, sending new merchandise to the store every week,” explains the diminutive Consuelo. “If a customer really loves a particular clothing item but needs a different size, I can contact one of the other locations to try to get it for her.” Consuelo is at the store every day but Wednesday. Lombok Exotic Touch store is open daily from 10 am to 9 pm. The Fashion Show is pleased to feature Lombok apparel in the 2012 event.
